Step 1: Grant access to the billing account to the Parent
US Law takes privacy very strictly. Once a child turns 18, the parent has no access to the child’s academic records or invoices. Even if your child is a minor at the moment, I suggest you have access to the billing account to view and pay fees and other dues to the University for the next four years.
Students can add authorized users to their account to view invoices and pay bills online by following the steps below.
- Log in to your student secure gateway account.
- Click “Add Authorized User” tab.
- Enter the email address of the person you wish to authorize.
- Select the access and click continue.
- Agree to add authorized user.
The person will be sent an email with a link and password to the secure payment gateway. This will give them the ability to view and pay bills online. Detailed instructions here
Authorized Users set up on the billing account do not have access to academic records/ grades. This I have discussed in a separate post.
Step 2: Review Your Invoice
Your first invoice will be generated soon (around Mid-end July). This is how you access it. Check it and make sure the bill is as per your expectations. The line items you should expect to see are:
Credits for
- Admission deposit you sent ($500)
- BGR deposit you may have sent ($320)
Debits for:
- Housing deposit ($200)
- BGR participation fee.
- Fall semester Tuition fees
- Housing for the first semester (should be half of the rate you saw on the housing portal as that was for the full academic year)
- Meal Plan (for the track chosen)
- Learning Community fee (if chosen)
Step 3: Pay your Tuition Fees/ Enrol on a Payment Plan
Although the last day to pay Tuition and fees is the first day of each semester. (for eg Fall 2024 it is August 19, 2024), you probably want to start the process now in order to give yourself plenty of time to get your ducks in a row. There are several ways for you to pay your Purdue University tuition, fees and charges. See here for the full list
Tuition fee is same for up to 18 credits per semester. Any further credits need to be authorised by the Academic Advisor. As far as I know, even with your Academic Advisor’s approvals, there is an absolute limit of 21 credits beyond which you need to pay extra fees to, and get approval from, the Bursar’s office.
For making a payment online, see the Make a Payment page for detailed instructions. Just to dispel a question that many parents have, you cannot pay the Purdue fees to the University Bank Account via a direct wire transfer from your home country. You need to send it via CIBC/Flywire.
The only way to pay the Uni directly is from a US bank account. Also if you enter into a payment plan (at an extra $60 cost), you can choose to pay each instalment in a different way for e.g the first instalment could be via CIBC/Flywire and the rest from your child’s bank account in the US (which you will open when you land).
Keep in mind you need to allow grace of around a week to ten days for any CIBC/Flywire transfer to be credited to the University so you should ideally have sent the funds by at least the first week of August.
Please note you cannot pay in person by credit card/debit card or cash. They dont accept these. If opting to pay in person, you can only pay by money order, travellers checks etc.
Step 4: Complete your Enrolment
Once your fees have been paid in full or a Payment plan has been set up and the deposit given then you need to confirm your Enrolment. Do this by going to myPurdue > Bills & Payments > Student Account Checklist.
